Wilmington Urban STEM Initiative Sponsorship

As part of our Responsible Solvers™ program Ashland is sponsoring Jacqueline Means and the Wilmington Urban STEM Initiative, engaging young minds with hands-on STEM experiences and preparing the next generation of experts that will conquer the world’s future challenges.

Recently, Ashland sponsored the Wilmington Urban STEM initiative with a trip to a virtual reality arcade. Twenty girls had the opportunity to experience STEM in a fun and engaging way. The virtual games included opportunities for the girls to be a “virtual” store owner, run races and more.

Ashland provided a tour for over 40 middle school aged children that have shown interest in STEM related fields of study, which furthered our commitment and relationship with Jacqueline Means and the Wilmington Urban STEM program.

Ashland participates at Hopewell Elementary’s Career Day

Bill Hill, scientist and key account manager, spoke to sixth grade students about his career as a chemist, to encourage students to consider STEM related job possibilities as they grow up, during Hopewell Elementary’s Career Day event. His presentation, “My Career as A Chemist,” featured details of his education, courses that interested him, talented people he has worked with, locations he has been able to travel to, and all the opportunities that may come with a STEM related career.
