pediatric and geriatric
Designing medicines intended for administration to very young or very old patients presents unique challenges. Ashland is ready and able to help you solve these challenges with several different products.
Young patients are often given medicine in liquid form, to help in swallowing. Ashland offers Natrosol™ hydroxyethylcellulose and Aqualon™ or Blanose™ sodium carboxymethylcellulose for rheology modification in liquid dosage forms. These liquids often require taste masking, for which our cyclodextrins are successfully used. It has also been shown that Aquarius™ Protect film coating system is an effective taste barrier.
Geriatric patients also often have difficulty swallowing. Minitablets made with directly compressible Benecel™ hydroxypropylmethylcellulose are a good choice for helping to make the dosage form easier to swallow.
