How are sunscreens regulated in Australia? |
Primary sunscreens with SPF >4 and moisturisers containing sunscreens with SPF >15 are regulated as therapeutic goods and required to be included in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG) before they can be marketed in AU. Some materials contain an ingredient with sunscreening properties, but the purpose of the product is not for sunscrening or therapeutic. These materials are considered 'cosmetic sunscreens' and are managed under AICIS. They must meet AICIS's definition of a cosmetic and their movement in AU are managed via available AICIS registration options. |
