Benecel™ methylcellulose (MC) and its derivatives are made by reacting alkali-cellulose with methyl chloride (resulting in methylcellulose, MC) or propylene oxide (resulting in hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, HPMC) under rigidly controlled conditions.
