With the onslaught of a second wave of COVID-19 in India, the country has been facing a severe shortage of oxygen cylinders and concentrators. To provide support during this moment of crisis, Ashland India’s CSR team rallied together with the Rotary Club of Bombay Juhu Beach, a Public Charitable Trust (Rotary), to sponsor Medical Oxygen Concentrator Machines for BSES Municipal General Hospital at Andheri West, Mumbai. The Medical Oxygen Concentrator Machines will be used to provide artificial respiration support to COVID-19 patients treated at BSES MG Hospital.

Ashland India donated 25 oxygen concentrators to BSES MG Hospital for a total investment of $15,324 USD. Ashland’s solvers attended the virtual inauguration over a zoom call hosted by Rotary club. We were overwhelmed with the gratitude expressed by the hospital staff.  

“We are grateful we could provide oxygen concentrators crucial to the treatment of COVID-19 patients,” said Nelson Corda, general manager, lifesciences, Asia and managing director, India, Ashland. “The second wave of his pandemic has hit every segment of society sparing neither kith nor kin.  While we are taking all precautions for the safety of our solvers in India, we are endeavoring to extend support to the community as well.”

The impact of the large-scale outbreak of the COVID-19 virus has been immense on the health care professionals. Based on the requirements of the Maharashtra Government,  80 percent of the beds in the hospital have been allocated to COVID-19 affected patients. Being in charitable health care the BSES MG hospital is in constant need of funds and it is dependent on benevolent patrons, donors and non-government organizations (NGOs) to meet the expectations of their patients.  Ashland India was just one of the corporations responding to the request.
